Welcome to Helge å Model Forest!
The Landscape Initiative Helge å Model Forest was in January 2016, accepted as Sweden’s third Model Forest. The other two who achieved full membership in the ”International Model Forest Network” is Sustainable Bergslagen and Wilhelmina Model Forest. TheInternational Model Forest Network has a network that extends around the world and is working for sustainable landscape development. Today there are 60 Model Forests in 30 countries on five continents. The area of Helge å Model Forest encompass 14municipalities in three regions, Jönköping, Kronoberg and Skåne.
One of the main purposes of a Model Forest is to be a forum for participation and collaboration between those in that different waysusing the landscape and through dialogue to solve common issues. The parish is often the starting point for collaboration at the local level, but at the same time bee observant on the surrounding landscape.
Water quality and its importance for land use and biodiversity is central to the continued work of Helge River Model Forest. Seven key issues have been highlighted by our partnership – Streaming water, Brownification of water, Rural development, Green infrastructure for hardwood forest values, Peri-urban nature and participatory planning, Future tree species in the landscape, and finally knowledge development. Initiative to form a Model Forest area along the Helge River was taken in 2007 by Södra, biosphere area Vattenriket the National Board of Forestry.
